According to preliminary data, six people were killed and over 30 were injured in an explosion on a tourist bus at the airport in Sarafovo. On-site explosion killed five, and one died later in hospital. 32 people were hospitalized, of which three are in intensive care.
The tourists arrived in Bulgaria from Rel Aviv with a charter flight number 392 of airline Air Via at 16:43 p.m. local time. On board, per preliminary data, traveled 154 passengers, including 146 adults and 8 children.
Bulgarian authorities are investigating the version it was a terrorist attack. Burgas Airport is temporarily closed.
"We express our deepest condolences to the families of the dead and sympathy for the wounded," Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolay Mladenov said about the tragic incident. "Bulgaria will do everything in their power to clarify the causes of this terrible incident," added Mladenov, who immediately went to the scene. The Minister expressed his condolences in a conversation with his Israeli counterpart, Avigdor Lieberman, and informed him of the details of the incident.
At the scene, besides the foreign minister, is President Rosen Plevneliev and Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov. Bulgarian officials are in constant contact with Israeli authorities and will provide information to the media every hour.
