Washington, D.C. (BNO NEWS) – Wednesday, President Obama remarked on his meetings with the leaders of Afghanistan and Pakistan by saying it was ‘extraordinarily productive.’

President Obama met with Afghanistan President Hamid Karazi and Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari at the White House Wednesday. Obama says that the three nations are working together to find a way to combat terrorism as well as improving the lives of the citizens of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Pledging a ‘lasting commitment', President Obama said he will continue to support the democratic governments of Afghanistan and Pakistan despite expected setbacks and continued violence.

President Obama said that the fact that the three heads of state were meeting was the combined effort of “ministers, and agency heads at every level” and that it “reflects the kind of concrete cooperation and detail that is going to ultimately make a difference in improving opportunity and democracy and stability in Pakistan and in Afghanistan.”

The President continued by saying that Afghanistan, Pakistan, and the United States share a common enemy, and will work together “to disrupt, dismantle, and defeat al Qaeda and its extremist allies.”

Obama said that the United States would work with Afghanistan and Pakistan to “make every effort to avoid civilian casualties.” This was in response to the U.S. air strikes that were believed to have killed over 100 civilians.

President Obama followed that by stating that “This support will not waver and it will be sustained. No matter what happens, we will not be deterred.”
