WASHINGTON, D.C. (BNO NEWS) -- Jerusalem Mayor Barkat said he is "disheartened" by the shooting attack at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. on Wednesday, his aide told BNO News.

"Mayor Barkat was disheartened to learn of the hateful attack, especially at an institution that teaches the very understanding that we seek here in Jerusalem and throughout the world," Stephan Miller, Mayor Barkat's aide said. ""His thoughts are with the security guard and his family."

"In addition he sent D.C. Mayor Adrian Fenty his support and solidarity," Miller added.

Israel had earlier condemned the shooting incident.
