GRAY COURT, South Carolina (BNO NEWS) -- A young boy shot his older brother during an accidental shooting in South Carolina on Friday morning, a sheriff told BNO News.

Officers were dispatched at 9.30 a.m. to a home in Gray Court after a 3-year-old boy shot his 4-year-old brother in the abdomen. Sheriff Ricky Chastain said it appears to be an accidental shooting.

According to officials, the boy found a .22-caliber Smith and Wesson handgun under his bed after he woke up in his father's home. "The 3-year-old got up and found it underneath the bed," Chastain said. He then pulled the trigger and discharged the weapon, which struck his brother.  The victims were both in the bed.

The child's father was present in the home but it was not immediately clear if he was also in the room. The 4-year-old boy was flown to a local hospital. His condition is unknown but Chastain said he was alert and talking.

It happened at 822 Rolling Meadows Road in Gray Court around 9.30 a.m. local time.
