Small plane crashes near Mount Carmel, Illinois

From the BNO Newsroom.
MOUNT CARMEL, Illinois (BNO NEWS) -- A small plane crashed in Mount Carmel, Illinois on Saturday afternoon, authorities told BNO News.
The plane, a single-engine Luscombe 8C aircraft, went down several miles west of the city at Highway 15 and County Road 850. The pilot was the only person on board and died on impact. The aircraft was completely destroyed.
"We don't know where it came from or where it was going," Tony Molinaro, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration said.
The plane was build in 1941 and official records showed the plane was registered to James M. Bowers from Mount Juliet in Tennessee. Molinaro said it does not automatically mean that Bowers was flying the plane. The local coroner will identify the body.
The certificate for the plane was issued on December 8, 2000 and was still valid when the plane crashed.
The Federal Aviation Administration has turned over its information to the National Transportation Safety Board which will investigate the cause of the crash.
