ATLANTA (BNO NEWS) -- Two passengers sustained minor injuries during an evacuation of a passenger plane at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Saturday afternoon, officials told BNO News.

The incident happened just after 3 p.m. local time as the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 aircraft was taxiing towards the runway, according to Delta Airlines spokesman Carlos Santos. Just before reaching the runway, there were reports of flames coming out of the engine and fire trucks were deployed to spray the engine, Santos said.

Kathleen Bergen, a spokeswoman for the Federal Aviation Administration, told BNO News that two passengers sustained minor injuries during the evacuation. Bergen said a fire was indicated when the pilot started the number two engine and passengers then evacuated the aircraft via the chutes. "A later report said no fire was detected," she said.

Santos said passengers were already at the terminal about two hours after the incident, and were scheduled to take another flight at 6.30 p.m.

The incident involved Delta Airlines flight 1016 from Atlanta to Philadelphia International Airport, carrying 138 passengers and 5 crew members. An investigation is underway, according to Santos.
